The Android™ Builders Summit is a technical summit for OEMs, their device manufacturers, integrators, custom builders, and the growing Android and Linux Kernel developer communities. Android is expanding to an increasing number of industry segments in addition to smart phones and tablets. There is a need for the ecosystem of builders to collaborate on a common solution for existing limitations and desired features across all of these device categories. The Android Builders Summit provides an intimate forum for collaboration at the systems level and discussion of core issues and opportunities when designing Android devices. The summit addresses topics ranging from custom builds, alternative middleware, network functionality extensions, Peer to Peer frameworks, USB device support, security, unification of power management, tools and hybrid Android devices among many other topics.

Android-IA Scalability Features To Support A Single Build Target – Andrew Boie, Intel

Android-IA is an open source Android distribution targeting Intel Core platforms. We describe enhancements made to the base Android Open Source Project to support a single binary build target that runs unmodified on a large set of IA-based tablets and slates. In particular we support automatic signed Linux kernel module loading and init.rc actions based on uevents, I2C and USB sensor hubs, and enhanced WiFi, Camera, and Audio HALs that auto-detect the underlying hardware interfaces. Device provisioning is done by a new interactive installer (replacing the old Diskinstaller) which allows the user to provide platform parameters at install-time instead of in the build. We conclude the discussion with some detail on future work as well as a call for community participation in this effort. The intended audience is advanced-level Android platform developers. All the code is hosted on 01.org.
