The Android™ Builders Summit is a technical summit for OEMs, their device manufacturers, integrators, custom builders, and the growing Android and Linux Kernel developer communities. Android is expanding to an increasing number of industry segments in addition to smart phones and tablets. There is a need for the ecosystem of builders to collaborate on a common solution for existing limitations and desired features across all of these device categories. The Android Builders Summit provides an intimate forum for collaboration at the systems level and discussion of core issues and opportunities when designing Android devices. Like a Linux distribution, an Android distribution is composed of many open source components derived from a large set of open source projects (e.g., e2fsprogs, dbus, webkit, openssl, Linux Kernel, grub, bzip2, llvm, libpng, qemu, â¦). A common misunderstanding is that an Android distribution is available under just one or two open source licenses, when hundreds apply. Identifying and sharing licensing information within the Android software supply chain presents a challenge. The Software Package Data Exchange (SPDX), the Linux Foundationâs standard license exchange format, provides an effective mechanism for recording and sharing licensing information. We present an overview of SPDX and discuss how SPDX data can be used to effectively share information for an Android distribution.
